Diamond days, Octopus and Gone Girl. 38/66

We awoke this morning to a hazy cloud up on the mountain. By the time we reached the beach the cloud was deciding what it was going to do for the day.

20 minutes exercise

Some days are diamonds some days are gold…. so the song goes and today was a diamond in the rough kind of day. The weather was doing its mysterious own thing but there was no sign of actual rain so we headed out on our usual path.

As we, the Giant, Riley and me, made our way down towards the first rock shelf we wondered if the illusive Octopus from yesterday would still be there.  Sure enough he was and we spent a bit of time watching him reach out from under the rock shelf in search of food.

Waves were not surging today so we were able to go quite a way up the shelf. The Giant, thinker of great ideas, decided to catch a crab and take it back to the other ledge for the octopus!

It took a while for the Giant to catch one of the aggressive little buggers as they scuttle into the crevices at such speed. It made me realise that all those people who make ‘alien’ type horror movies must have been on a rock shelf at sometime watching crabs. Why? Because the sound they make as they dash across the rock surface is the same as the sound of aliens moving in the dark in your spaceship!!

Anyway eventually the poor crab was caught carried and delivered into the range of the octopus… Wow if you want to see fast put a crab into a pool with an octopus. Like a flash it was grabbed and gone from view… Scary fast… Glad it wasn’t a giant octopus as this blog may have come to a sudden end!

20 minutes learning.

On our return home the conversation continued on about the octopus and then it led to a research session on Octopus behaviour on the internet.

Now if you want to see something impressive these are the creatures to google.

Imagine a crab in a jar with a lid on put in an octopus tank… What is going to happen? well the octopus is going to open the jar and eat the crab!

Don’t believe me?…… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kuAiuXezIU

Or What if a giant octopus and a shark are in the same aquarium tank…

Time to face off against each other… Who Survives??

20 minutes reading/planning

Today’s reading is purely for enjoyment as it is a Saturday so the next chapter of Gone Girl is on the menu… Don’t know the book?

gone girl

Marriage can be a real killer. One of the most critically acclaimed suspense writers of our time, New York Times bestseller Gillian Flynn, takes that statement to its darkest place in this unputdownable masterpiece about a marriage gone terribly, terribly wrong. As The Washington Post proclaimed, her work “draws you in and keeps you reading with the force of a pure but nasty addiction.” Gone Girl’s toxic mix of sharp-edged wit with deliciously chilling prose creates a nerve-fraying thriller that confounds you at every turn.

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick Dunne’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick Dunne isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but hearing from Amy through flashbacks in her diary reveal the perky perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer? As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister Margo at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn’t do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was left in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?

Employing her trademark razor-sharp writing and assured psychological insight, Gillian Flynn delivers a fast-paced, devilishly dark, and ingeniously plotted thriller that confirms her status as one of the hottest writers around.

Just a little bit of light reading…
