Salt water and sand between my toes and Karma 45/66

Wow arriving at the beach at 5am was a traffic jam this morning the car park was already almost full!!  It would seem that the surfers had smelt the scent of the perfect wave or maybe just the scent of a crisp blue wave. Like a pied piper was calling they had been called to the spot on the rise.

20 minutes exercise.

I can understand that calling to the sea as it is now something I feel strongly on waking each and every morning. When this is the view that awaits you how could you not want to walk with the salt water and sand between your toes.

We followed the first of the surfers onto the beach their footprints the only ones ahead of us on the sand.

453 Surfer in the far distance out on the first rock shelf.

They went almost to the third rock shelf before turning and catching the drag between the reef to take them out to the waves. Impressive that both appeared to be at least 50 years old and both stretched and limbered before entering the water.

I feel a jealousy of kinds that they are so at ease in an element that I am an avid watcher of but rarely enter into!!!

We watch for a while as they ride the waves that are forming far enough off shore that photos were not possible. Besides it feels like a private moment…. When they get up on the board and ride it is not about anyone else but them and the ocean itself.

As we head back the colours are changing.

A fluorescent jacket ahead is wrapped around a mum who has come to watch her boy surf. We chat about the gift of being on the beach this early and how it just sets your day off to a brilliant start.

We watch for a while and then leave her to her private moments watching her boy glide along the waves. There is an amazing grace to the movement and you feel your heart beat slow and your breath deepen just by watching the dance of the surfer on the wave.

20 minutes learning

karma

Today it was all about Karma. I have an interest in all kinds of philosophy and thought and was intrigued by an article that  talked about how we often misunderstand the concept of Karma.

In Sanskrit Karma means action. It is the equivalent to Newton’s law of every action must have a reaction and is a law of cause and effect that is not about punishment but about education and learning.

The article set out 12 Karmic laws as follows:

  1. The great law: as you sow, so shall you reap.  Whatever we put out into the universe comes back to us.  Funny about that!
  2. The law of creation: Life doesn’t just happen, it requires our participation. Whatever surrounds us give us clues to our inner state….  Isn’t that interesting. I look at what surrounds me now and know that my inner state is so much better than it was.
  3. The law of humility: What you refuse to accept, will continue for you… I spent a long time thinking I could just get through some stuff it wasn’t until I accepted it for what it was that I was able to see how to get out and change things.
  4. The law of growth: Wherever you go, there you are. The only given we have in our lives is OURSELVES and that is the only factor we have control over.  Isn’t it funny how we can try for a very long time to get others to change the way they are and to live better and to eat better and to take care of themselves all the while making ourselves unwell with the worry. Time to stop and to take care of yourself as that is all you have control over. Interestingly others then seem to get the idea and start taking care of themselves. Funny that!
  5. The law of responsibility: Whenever there is something wrong in my life, there is something wrong in me. We must take responsibility for what is in our life. Amen to that.
  6. The law of connection: Neither the first step nor the last are of greater significance, as they are both needed to complete the task. Everything is connected.. Do not forget that all the little things count.
  7. The law of focus: You cannot think of two things at the same time. When our focus is on spiritual values it is impossible to have lower thoughts such as anger or greed. When you focus on the good all else pales into insignificance.
  8. The law of giving and hospitality: If you believe something to be true then sometime in your life you will be called upon to demonstrate that particular truth. Here is where we put what we claim that we have learnt into actual practice.  It has taken me a long time to start living this on a number of levels but once you do it becomes your way of being.
  9. The law of here and now: Old thoughts, old patterns of behaviour, old dreams prevent us from having new ones. Do not look back as you can not change the past. Recognise where you are and look forward to what and where you want to be.
  10. The law of change: History repeats itself until we learn the lessons that we need to change our path. It takes courage to stop repeating a behaviour that you know will not have a positive result but once you do stop and recognise the lesson change will come.
  11. The law of patience and reward: True joy follows doing what we’re supposed to be doing and waiting for the reward to come in on its own time.  If you do what you in your heart know is what you should be doing it will flow to reward. Sometimes the reward looks very different to how you imagined it would but it is none the less the reward.
  12. The law of significance and inspiration: loving contributions bring life to, and inspire, the whole. It is that old adage of you only get out what you put in. When you do anything with love and care it elevates the whole even if your part is only small.

20 Minutes planning/reading/goal setting.

Planning was again all about work today. It is the planning that keeps my head above the water during the silly season. 🙂
